SAN ANTONIO — A man was killed by a dog in a condo and his girlfriend is in custody after she allegedly stole his possessions and drove off in her car, authorities said.
The man was found in the home on South Main Street around 10:15 p.m.
Sunday after his wife returned to retrieve her possessions, police said.
The couple, both in their 20s, have no criminal history and were in the condo with a dog and a puppy, police spokeswoman Melissa Rodriguez said.
Police responded to the apartment after receiving reports of a possible burglary.
Upon arriving, officers found a dog, which they believe was an adult dog, inside the condo, Rodriguez said in a statement.
The woman was taken into custody on a charge of felony dog cruelty, and the man was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
She was released on her own recognizance and was expected to appear in court Monday, police spokesman David Ward said.
A dog bite investigation is ongoing, Rodriguez added.
