The UAB Blazers defeated Louisiana State 21-17 on Saturday night.
D.JJ Johnson had a pair of big plays on both ends of the field.
The first came on the final drive of the second half.
Johnson found his way up the middle to give the Blazers the lead with 3:38 remaining.
Johnson was able to put the ball on the ground on the next play for a 17-13 lead.
Johnson got the ball to go to Jaleel Thomas who took a snap and had a step in front of a leaping D. Jones.
The Utes got the snap back and it appeared to be a long run for the wideout.
Thomas took a shot that fell short of the target but he got to the end zone.
Johnson, however, was able a pair other scoring drives.
He found D. Thomas for a 20-yard field goal with 11:30 left in the game.
That set up a 2nd-and, 5th-and score.
Johnson had two more scoring drives and a 24-yard touchdown run to give him a team-high five touchdowns in his last six games.
He also rushed for one yard on the last play of the game to give UAB a 21-20 lead with 2:55 remaining.
Johnson is the first Blazers quarterback to record at least five touchdowns this season and is also the first freshman to score more than 100 yards passing since 2012.
UAB (3-1, 1-1 SEC) is 3-0 against SEC opponents.
